Method of Use
  • Eaten, smoked or brewed in a drink.
  • When smoked usually referred to as a joint or inhaled via a bong.
  • Can be eaten in cakes, yoghurts, and brewed into any liquid - usually tea.

The Effects
  • The effects from cannabis can last anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours and usually relaxes people.
  • The appetite can be stimulated leading to 'munchies' - a desire to eat.
  • Reactions and thinking are slowed down, tiredness, reddening of the eyes, dry mouth, hallucinations, anxiety, a rise in pulse rate and lowering of blood pressure are other signs of cannabis use.
  • If the individual experiences a 'whitey' the feelings of paranoia, fear and panic can be extremely intense and frightening.
  • Some types of cannabis are very powerful due to being genetically altered (skunk).

The Health Risk
  • Cannabis can induce latent health problems and promote psycosis.
  • Short term memory can be affected and reactions slowed, making it dangerous to drive or operate heavy machinery.
  • Although cannabis is not physically addictive and there are no reports of death due to its use; psychological addiction is possible.
  • Mood swings, depression, panic attacks, difficulty sleeping or concentrating and feelings of vulnerability can be experienced if long term or heavy use is stopped suddenly.

The Law
  • Cannabis is a Class B drug.
  • Possession carries a maximum sentence of 5 years and/or unlimited fine.
  • Supply carries a maximum sentence of 14 years and/or an unlimited fine.
