The Rising Sun Trust takes the meaning of the word ‘support’ as individuals engage in our service.

New Horizons

The Trust will try and offer the most appropriate means of support to the individual

New Horizons offers the following means of support;
  • A safe, warm place to go
  • Understanding
  • Friendship
  • A non judgemental atmosphere
  • Trained staff/volunteers

The Trust also supports other services such as AA by offering them the use of our building for their weekly meetings.

If someone accessing our services needs help maintaining their personal hygiene, we will offer them these facilities

Everyone should have the right to a hot bath and some sort of washing facility for their own dignity.

Lack of interest in personal hygiene can show many things.  If the choice for the individual to maintain their personal hygiene is in place they can make a decision – simply put, if the washing facilities are not there, an individual won’t wash.

If someone hasn’t eaten we will provide them with a meal through donations of food that the New Horizons receive.

If a homeless person is struggling to maintain their food intake, be it through lack of money or any other issue, we know that on that particular day they have had a sandwich and a hot drink.

The drop in offers a range of activities that clients can participate in at anytime, these included:

  • Darts
  • Dominos
  • Scrabble
  • Chess and many more

Clients also have access to computers and the internet at all times. Clients have access to a clothes rack; which they can buy and donated clothes to the rack at any times. Items on the rack are 50p each.

Clients are provided with refreshments which they decided would cost them £1.50 a week or 50p a cup. Biscuits are also provided daily.

 Sunset night drop-in service

There will now be an extension to the New Horizon drop-in service, a night time drop- in called Sunset. Starting on 3rd November 2009 Sunset will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6pm-9pm through to march 2010. This is currently a six month pilot project that we are hoping to be able to extend in order to provide an ongoing service. The Sunset drop in is being opened to cater for vulnerable individuals with drug and alcohol misuse issues, by providing a warm and safe environment to go to for the evening and we believe this will also help to curb anti-social behavior.

The sun set drop in is there:

  • To provide a safe and warm place for vulnerable people with drug and alcohol dependencies.
  • To help support change in an individuals situation e.g. Homelessness.
  • Provide advice and guildance leading to structured referrals.
  • Give opportunities for homeless clients to get something to eat and a bath if needed.

The Rising Sun Trust is looking for help from the public with volunteering, donations of clothing, bedding, kitchen items. Contact the charity on 01900 870034.
