The Rising Sun Trust takes the meaning of the word ‘support’ as individuals engage with our service.
New Horizons Drop -In

The Trust seeks to offer the most appropriate means of support to the individual in need.
New Horizons offers the following ;

• A safe, warm place to go
• Understanding
• Friendship
• A non judgemental atmosphere
• Trained staff/volunteers

The Trust also supports other services in a practical way eg AA hold their weekly meetings on our premises.

If someone accessing our services needs help maintaining their personal hygiene we have the facilities to ensure they can have a bath and feel refreshed.

Everyone should have the right to a hot bath and some sort of washing facility for their own dignity.
Lack of interest in personal hygiene can show many things. If the choice for the individual to maintain their personal hygiene is in place they can make a decision – simply put, if washing/personal hygiene facilities are not available, the individual has no choice.

If someone hasn’t eaten we endeavour to provide some sustenence through donations of food that New Horizons receive.  If a homeless person is struggling to maintain their food intake, be it through lack of money or any other issue, we know that on that particular day they have had some food and a hot drink.

The drop- in offers a range of activities that clients can participate in at anytime, these include:

• Darts
• Dominos
• Scrabble
• Chess
• Pool table
• Television
• Internet access

Client can purchase donated items of clothing for 50p per item.

Refreshments , including tea,coffee,juice and biscuits are available. The clients themselves placed a charge of £2.50 per week or £1.00 per day on this service all of qhich goes towards the cost of the refreshments.

New Horizon is open Monday to Friday 10am till 3pm excluding Bank hollidays.

Sunset Evening Drop-In

There will now be an extension to the New Horizon drop-in service, a night time drop- in called Sunset. Starting on 3rd November 2009 Sunset will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6pm-9pm through to March 2010. This is currently a six month pilot project that we are hoping to be able to extend in order to provide an ongoing service. The Sunset drop in is being opened to cater for vulnerable individuals with drug and alcohol misuse issues, by providing a warm and safe environment to go to for the evening and we believe this will also help to curb anti-social behavior.

Sunset offers the following ;

• a safe and warm place for vulnerable people with drug and alcohol dependencies to spend time in the evening.
• support to help change an individuals situation e.g. Homelessness.
• advice and guildance leading to structured referrals.
• facilities for homeless clients to get something to eat and a bath if needed.
