The Rising Sun Trust was established in 1999 by David Smith following the death of his son, Ryan. The aim of the Trust was to help in the care and counselling of young drug users and to assist their families in coping with and helping their children.
The aim has now grown to supporting anyone, of any age with drugs/alcohol related issues.
The Rising Sun Trust provides a much needed and totally unique service to individuals who are experiencing drugs/alcohol issues within West Cumbria
The complex nature regarding the lifestyles that individuals who have drugs/alcohol issues can range from, chaotic to an individual that has been 'dry/clean' for a period of time but still feels the need for support and the understanding of others who have been in similar situations.
The Rising Sun Trust offers anyone with the a drugs/alcohol issue the chance of a 24 hour support network. The Trust runs a 24 hour, 365 days a year, free and confidential helpline and 5 days a week drop in service. The helpline and the Trust office are open to family and friends of misusers so that they can also receive help and support during a very difficult period in their lives.
Any individual that has the courage to address their drugs/alcohol issues deserves the best possible help and support.
Giving people the chance to lead a fulfilling, positive and independent life is at the heart of the Rising Sun Trust.
We aim to support, signpost and encourage any person that comes to he Rising Sun Trus for help - be it a misuser of drugs/alcohol or the family or friends of a misuser - they will be supported in a positive manner and always with a view to 'moving on' with their lives.
We do not have a 'time limit', we do produce care plans and refer to other agencies and organisations.
We do, amd alwats will have, an open door policy to any individual who chooses to engage in our services.
The Rising Sun Trust provides the following services
- New horizons Drop in centre, Workington. Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm
- Family support meetings, Workington. Wednesday from 6:30pm.
- Referrals can be made during office hours but details can be taken 24 hours a day via the Signpost helpline.
- The signpost helpline can be accessed 365 days a year, help, advice or just a chat is available from all our trained volunteers
